Rufus serves as the focal point of this 2014 survey, situated on the south bank of the Columbia River where the landscape is defined by the massive impoundments of Lake Celilo and Lake Umatilla. The terrain is deeply incised by a series of dramatic canyons, including Scott Canyon, Hellroaring Canyon, and Hartley Canyon, which drain the high plateaus of Sherman County.
