Saddle Mtn dominates this portion of the Arizona desert, standing as the primary topographic landmark west of the greater Phoenix area. The landscape is defined by the contrast between these rugged elevations and the surrounding flat basin, where a geometric grid of roads like Indian School Rd and W Courthouse Rd has been laid out over the arid terrain. While much of the area remains undeveloped, the presence of the Mauldin Airstrip and utility corridors such as W El Paso Natural Gas Rd suggest the region's role in supporting regional infrastructure and private aviation. Seasonal drainage patterns are visible through the paths of Delaney Wash and Centennial Wash, which cut through the desert floor. This 2021 survey provides a contemporary view of the Township and Range system, including t1n r8w and t2n r7w, illustrating the organized expansion into the Maricopa County backcountry.
