1971 Map of Salado

About this map

Salado sits along the Little Colorado River valley in this 1971 survey of eastern Arizona, updated with woodland and road revisions in the early 1980s. The landscape is defined by the critical management of water in a high-desert environment, evidenced by the extensive Lyman Ditch system and numerous water sources like Salado Springs, Romero Spring, and Hidden Spring. To the south, the Little Colorado River flows toward Lyman Lake, passing the El Tule (Site) and the Chavez Ranch. Local infrastructure for ranching and settlement is clearly marked, from the White Corral Windmills to a small Cem (cemetery) and a series of Trailer Parks near the northern boundary. The terrain transitions from the river bottom to the elevated Big Knoll, dissected by drainages such as Big Hollow Wash and Chimney Wash.
