Salitre Canyon and its network of deeply carved drainages define this portion of the high plains along the Harding Co San Miguel Co line. The landscape is characterized by the ephemeral flow of Mosquero Cr and Marque Cr, which have shaped a series of prominent features including Vigas Canyon, Tapia Canyon, and Ojos Canyon. This 2020 survey reveals a quiet, open terrain where human activity is primarily reflected in the section lines of the Public Land Survey System and a handful of local access routes. Roads such as Mosquero Canyon Rd and Co Rd J follow the natural contours of the land, providing the few links through this expanse of New Mexico rangeland. The map illustrates a contemporary view of these traditional ranching lands, where the natural topography remains the dominant feature.
