Fall Creek Falls Lake and its associated dam dominate the southwestern corner of this Tennessee plateau landscape, where the waters of Fall Creek and Cane Creek converge. The topography is defined by significant vertical drops, most notably at Fall Creek Falls and Cane Creek Falls, which have long drawn visitors to the area, including those at the Fall Creek Falls Scout Camp.

Evidence of historical extraction is scattered across the higher elevations, particularly in the northeast, where several small-scale mining operations like the Haston Mine and Pendergrass Mine are documented. Local family history is preserved in several rural burial grounds, including Mooneyham Cemetery and DeBord Cemetery, situated along a network of winding forest roads such as Salzer Mountain Rd and Bledsoe Forest Rd.
