Santa Paula serves as the southern anchor for this map, where the valley floor begins its ascent into the steep drainage systems of the Los Padres National Forest. The landscape is defined by the massive uplift of the Santa Paula Ridge and Topatopa Bluff, which tower over the deep incisions of Santa Paula Canyon and Sisar Canyon. These canyons have long been critical corridors for movement and seasonal occupation, as evidenced by Camp Bartlett and the thermal waters of Sulphur Springs located along the creek beds.
