Santa Paula sits at the southern edge of this survey, where the valley floor begins its steep ascent into the high ridges of the Los Padres National Forest. The landscape is defined by massive natural barriers like the Santa Paula Ridge and Topatopa Bluff, which overlook a network of deep drainage basins including Santa Paula Canyon and Adams Canyon. This topography created a natural corridor for early development, seen here in the placement of Thomas Aquinas College and the various springs and camps along the creek beds.
