Death Valley National Park borders the eastern edge of this high-desert landscape, where the White-Inyo Range meets the northern reaches of the Mojave Desert. The terrain is defined by dramatic geological features, including the volcanic basalt of Malpais Mesa and the sedimentary layers of Conglomerate Mesa. These landforms overlook the wide expanse of Santa Rosa Flat, a distinctive basin bounded to the east by the Santa Rosa Hills.
