The vast cattle country of North Texas is defined here by the meeting of four counties—Baylor, Foard, Wilbarger, and Knox. This landscape is dominated by the sprawling operations of the Waggoner Ranch, evidenced by the presence of Waggoner Ranch Lake Number 8 in the northern portion of the quadrangle. The terrain is deeply incised by a network of seasonal watercourses including S Beaver Cr, Crooked Cr, and Rose Hollow Cr, all of which contribute to the drainage basin of the North Wichita River as it clips the southwestern corner. Transport through this ranching territory is primarily facilitated by FM 1919, which traverses the undulating plains. The lack of concentrated settlements reflects the massive scale of private landholdings in this region, where water management features like livestock tanks and ranch lakes are the primary landmarks for local navigation and land use history.
