The Santanoni Mountains define this high-elevation wilderness, anchored by the massive bulk of Santanoni Peak and the neighboring Couchsachraga Peak. This terrain is a complex network of drainage basins where the Cold River flows through the northern reaches, passing Millers Falls and the deep waters of Big Eddy. The southern portion of the landscape transitions toward Newcomb Lake and the Newcomb River, which collect the runoff from numerous high-altitude basins and smaller peaks like Baldwin Mtn and Catlin Mtn.
