Black Butte Lake dominates the central eastern portion of this landscape, its western waters held behind the spillway near the border of Tehama and Glenn counties. The terrain is defined by a dense network of seasonal drainages including Sehorn Creek, Elmore Creek, and the North Fork Stony Creek, which cut through the ridges and hollows north of Stony Creek. Evidence of family ranching and early rural infrastructure is found in the presence of Elmore Cemetery and several remote springs like Jackson Spring and Burris Spring.
