The settlement of Aurora occupies a prominent position on the eastern shore of Kachemak Bay in this late-1980s topographic survey. This coastal landscape is defined by the complex intersection of tidal waters and glacial remnants, where Aurora Spit and Aurora Lagoon frame the northern shoreline. To the east, the terrain rises sharply into the wilderness of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and Kachemak Bay State Park, dominated by the massive Portlock Glacier.
