Halibut Cove and its intricate shoreline dominate the northern reaches of this coastal Alaskan landscape, where the waters of the Pacific Ocean meet the steep glacial terrain of the Kenai Peninsula. Much of the region is protected within the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, preserving a complex system of fjords and inlets including Peterson Bay and China Poot Bay. The interior is defined by a network of drainage systems like the Wosnesenski River and Silver Creek, which flow through deep valleys shaped by prehistoric ice movement.
