The Sheep Mountain massif dominates the northeastern corner of this landscape, where the Bighorn River carves a deep passage through Sheep Canyon. This high-desert terrain in Big Horn County is defined by a series of seasonal drainages, including Lovell Draw and Little Dry Cr, which cut through the arid flats between the mountains and the river. Water remains the primary shaper of human activity here, evidenced by Sheep Mountain Springs and the Agrarian Ditch, the latter indicating the vital role of irrigation in sustaining agricultural efforts at the southern edge of the survey area. The network of modern transit is sparse, centered primarily on Ribbon Canyon Rd and the state highways that cross the basin, providing access to this remote stretch of the Wyoming backcountry.
