Shelldrake and Paradise occupy a low-lying, wetland-rich stretch of the Upper Peninsula shoreline where the Shelldrake River meets the cold waters of Lake Superior. The landscape is dominated by a complex network of marshes and inland water bodies, including Shelldrake Lake, McMullan Lakes, and Hawkins Lake, separated by a dense grid of forest roads and trails such as W Vermillion Rd and N Widewater Rd. This coastal area at the edge of Whitefish Bay shows a distinct transition from the shoreline settlements to the deep interior woods of Chippewa County.
