Shinumo Altar rises as a prominent landmark above the surrounding high desert plateau in Coconino County. The landscape is defined by its arid drainage systems, including the extensive Hogansaani Wash and Shinumo Wash that carve through the sedimentary layers of Limestone Ridge. These natural channels are complemented by sparse human interventions, notably a series of catchment features such as Weed Reservoir, Salt Reservoir, and Corner Rock Reservoir.
