Shubrick Peak and the southern reaches of the King Range dominate this coastal landscape, where high ridgelines drop sharply toward the Pacific Ocean. The terrain is defined by a dense network of steep drainages, including Squaw Cr, Kinsey Cr, and Big Cr, which carve through prominent spurs like Telegraph Ridge and Moody Ridge. Along the shoreline, narrow coastal benches such as Big Flat and Miller Flat provide rare level ground at the base of the mountains. In the northeastern corner, the Mattole River flows near its upper forks, including the Upper North Fork Mattole River. This 2018 survey captures a remote wilderness accessible primarily via Mattole Rd and a few secondary routes like Lindley Rd, illustrating the rugged isolation of the northern California coast.
