About this map

Mount Arvon, Michigan's highest natural point, anchors the southern reaches of this landscape above the shores of Lake Superior. The northern portion of the map is defined by the settlement of Skanee and its proximity to Huron Bay, where Bendry Point marks the coastline. This area is heavily influenced by the drainage networks of the Slate River and Ravine River, both of which feature notable cascades including Slate Falls, Black Slate Falls, and Ravine River Falls. Local history is preserved at the Old Skanee Cem, while the industrial past of the Upper Peninsula is represented by the Huron Bay-Peshekee Grade, an old railroad corridor that once sought to connect the interior iron mines to the lakefront.
