About this map

Leona Valley and the northern reaches of the Angeles National Forest anchor this survey of the high desert and mountain terrain north of Los Angeles. The landscape is defined by the massive Sierra Pelona ridge and the visible trace of the San Andreas Fault, which cuts through the northern section of the map near Portal Ridge. Small settlements and clusters like White Heather, The Oaks, and Sleepy Valley are linked by a network of canyon roads and fire trails, including the Leona Divide Fire Rd. The winding path of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail traverses the center of the sheet, moving from Spunky Canyon across the ridges toward Agua Dulce. In the southern half, the Agua Dulce Airport and the geological formation at Boiling Point provide distinct landmarks among the numerous named drainages such as Texas Canyon and Mint Canyon.
