Sunshine Ranch and the small settlement of Vista occupy the central drainage systems of this high-elevation landscape, where numerous basins and divides dictate the flow of water and travel. The topography is defined by the significant split at Snedaker Divide, separating the waters that feed into Trout Creek and Onion Creek. This 2011 survey reveals a complex network of forest roads, including Magpie Gulch Rd and Sunshine Basin Rd, which provide access through the difficult terrain of Bluegill Canyon and across Snedaker Basin. The drainage patterns of Magpie Creek and Avalanche Creek in the south, contrasted with the North Fork Rock Creek in the north, illustrate the intricate watershed dynamics of Lewis and Clark County.
