Snowshoe Peak dominates this high-altitude landscape in the late 1990s, marking the crest where the Lincoln Co and Sanders Co line meets the Cabinet Mountains. The area is characterized by a network of glacial features and high-elevation basins, including the Blackwell Glacier and numerous alpine waters such as Leigh Lake and Big Cherry Lake. This survey captures the region as part of the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness, showing how it is managed within the Kootenai National Forest and Kaniksu National Forest.

Evidence of historical extraction persists near the peaks, most notably at the Snowshoe Mine and the St Paul Mine along Snowshoe Creek. These industrial sites are reached by steep trails and primitive roads, contrasting with the untouched terrain of the Goat Rocks and Hayes Ridge to the south. The drainage patterns are clearly defined, from the North Fork Bull River in the west to the headwaters of Poorman Creek in the southeast corner.
