The high ridges of the Allegheny Mountains define this borderland where Pendleton County, West Virginia, meets Highland County, Virginia. The landscape is a complex system of parallel peaks and deep hollows, dominated by the massive presence of the Monongahela National Forest and George Washington National Forest. Human settlement is concentrated in the low-lying southern basins, particularly around Bluegrass Valley. This area preserves several historical markers of the rural community, including the Old White Church and Blue Grass Cem. In the center of the map, the small settlement of Hardscrabble sits tucked along Hardscrabble Rd, while the North Fork South Branch Potomac River carves a significant path through the northern terrain. The topography is exceptionally detailed, showing the steep ascent of Snowy Mtn and the distinct formation of Devils Backbone.
