The Great Plain dominates this arid landscape along the international border in southern Arizona. The terrain is defined by wide alluvial fans and desert washes that characterize this portion of the Sonoran Desert. The most significant administrative feature is the boundary between the United States of America and Mexico, which runs diagonally across the northeastern corner of the map. This 2014 survey documents the sparse, open character of the region just south of Bailey Peak, showing the natural drainage patterns and topographical contours of a remote borderland environment before modern development or infrastructure modified the natural desert floor.
