Sauceda Wash and Quilotosa Wash dominate this desert landscape, forming part of the complex drainage network south of the Gila River. This 2011 survey illustrates the sparse infrastructure of the Sonoran Desert in Maricopa County, where the dry washes dictate the natural movement of water across the alluvial plains. The only significant modern intrusion into this undeveloped terrain is S 299 Ave, which cuts across the northern section of the map. This area represents the open, arid basins characteristic of the region, where seasonal water flow in the washes remains the primary geological force.
