The Payette River corridor defines the northern reaches of this Idaho landscape, where the settlement of Emmett meets an extensive network of managed waterways. In the early 21st century, the agricultural heritage of the Emmett Valley is clearly visible through a complex irrigation system including the Farmers Cooperative Canal, Black Canyon Canal, and the Last Chance Canal. These waterworks facilitate farming between the river and the rising terrain of Little Freezeout and West Hartley Gulch.
