Burrwood serves as the primary outpost on this thin finger of land at the extreme southern edge of Plaquemines Parish, where the Mississippi River meets the Gulf of Mexico. The landscape is dominated by the narrow channel of Southwest Pass, a critical maritime artery protected by the Inner West Jetty and East Jetty. This 1958 survey captures a complex infrastructure of navigational aids, including the Lookout Telegraph Station and the Southwest Pass Front Range Light.
