Kiowa National Grassland dominates the high plains landscape of northeastern New Mexico, where the border between Colfax County and Harding County runs through a territory defined by expansive draws and seasonal drainages. The topography is marked by significant elevations such as Chateau Hill in the northeast and the eponymous Spear Hills in the south, which overlook a series of dry watercourses including Carrizo Creek, Arroyo Ojo Verde, and Salado Creek.
