The Rio Grande National Forest landscape across the southern San Juan mountains is defined by a dense network of subalpine lakes and high-elevation drainage systems. At the heart of this terrain lies Spectacle Lake, positioned among the source waters of Rough Cr and the Conejos River. The map reveals a complex system of historical access routes, including the Ruybalid Trl and Valdez Trl, which connect high points like The Pinnacles and Black Mtn to the surrounding basins. Significant wetland features like the Chicago Bogs and Second Meadows sit alongside numerous named water bodies, including Lily Lake and Ruybalid Lake. This 2022 survey documents the contemporary trail infrastructure and forestry road network, such as FDR 249 RD, within this protected wilderness area.
