Little Owyhee River flows northward through this high desert plateau, a landscape defined by the crossing of the Idaho Nevada state line and the Owyhee and Elko county boundaries. The terrain transitions from the open expanses of the Owyhee Desert in the south to the more dissected topography of the north, where the river meets several tributaries including Willow Cr and Raven Cr. Rising above the river drainage, Star Valley Ridge provides a prominent landform in the northeast, while Indian Buttes and the solitary Nadine Butte anchor the southern portion of the survey. The mapping illustrates the complex public land survey system grid, reflecting how these remote borderlands were sectioned into townships and ranges despite the absence of developed settlements.
