The headwaters of the Lehigh River and the W Fork Lehigh River define this corner of the Poconos in the early 21st century. The landscape is a transition between traditional crossroads settlements like Sterling and Madisonville and more modern residential developments built around the area's numerous glacial and man-made water bodies. Many of these communities, including Pocono Springs, Eagle Lake, and Big Bass Lake, feature dense street networks that contrast with the open woods and hollows like Gas Hollow.
