Bruneau River carves a deep path through the plateau in this remote section of Owyhee County, forming the dramatic Bruneau Canyon. The landscape is dominated by high desert expanses, including the Blackstone Desert to the northwest and the Inside Desert further east. Topographic relief is defined by numerous drainage systems that cut toward the river, most notably Stiff Tree Draw, Sheepshead Draw, and Juniper Tree Draw. This 2017 survey reflects a largely uninhabited wilderness where elevation and natural landmarks like J-P Point provide the primary points of reference. The sparse human footprint is limited to basic administrative boundaries and few improved routes, emphasizing the area's character as a preserved rangeland and geological study site.
