Hays sits at the southern edge of this Blaine County landscape, where the northern foothills of the Little Rocky Mountains transition into a complex drainage system of coulees and canyons. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes, notably the high ground of Carry Water Bench and the carved depths of Powder Face Canyon and Curly Head Canyon. Local transport is facilitated by a network of rural routes, including the Lodge Pole Cut-Across and Philmore Rd, which navigate the rugged topography.
