The Middle Fork Clearwater Wild and Scenic River carves a deep valley through the Nez Perce National Forest in this mid-1960s survey. The landscape is defined by the high peaks of the Bitterroot mountains, including Stillman Point, O'Hara Point, and Sob Point, which loom over the river corridor. A network of primitive pack trails and a solitary Jeep Trail provide the only access into the backcountry, tracing ridges like Saddle Ridge and following drainages such as Falls Creek and Rackliff Creek. Along the riverbanks, recreational development is evident through a series of isolated sites, including the Rackliff Campground, Boyd Creek Campground, and Twentymile Campground. The map also captures several river bars, such as Twentymile Bar and Twentyfive Mile Bar, which served as key landmarks for forest travelers and river runners before the wild and scenic designation was fully established.
