Stoner serves as the focal point of this mountainous landscape, situated at the confluence where the West Dolores River meets the Dolores River. The geography is defined by high tablelands, most notably Stoner Mesa and Taylor Mesa, which are dissected by numerous canyons and gulches. Significant portions of the territory fall within the San Juan National Forest, supporting a network of recreational paths including Stoner Creek Trail 625 and the Boggy Lookout Trail 193.
