Indian Mound Island and the surrounding wetlands of Ware and Clinch Counties define this southeastern Georgia landscape. In this environment where water and land are inextricably linked, high ground is identified by a series of hammock and island labels, such as Harpers Hammock and the trio of North Strange Island, Middle Strange Island, and Strange Island. The Suwannee River flows through the western edge of the area, while Cypress Cr meanders through the southern reaches near Little Fiddlers Island.
