Canyonlands National Park and the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area meet in this 2017 study of the high desert of Emery and Wayne counties. The landscape is defined by the labyrinthine drainage systems of Bluejohn Canyon and Big Spring Canyon, which feed into the Barrier Cr and Spur Fork watersheds. The sheer topography is marked by named summits like Sugarloaf Butte and the long, finger-like mesas of The Spur and High Spur.
