Sulphur Lake sits at the heart of this dry-land landscape in the transition between Adams and Franklin Counties. The terrain is defined by dramatic geological features, including the winding Rattlesnake Canyon and several significant coulees — the Hardesty Coulee, Sand Hills Coulee, and the prominent Washtucna Coulee in the southeast. These channels illustrate the ancient drainage patterns of the Michigan Prairie region.
