Baird Glacier and Patterson Glacier dominate this glaciated landscape in the southern reaches of Alaska. This high-latitude environment is defined by dramatic ice-carved topography within the Tongass National Forest, where the deep valleys of Scenery Creek and Cascade Creek provide drainage for the massive ice fields above. The terrain transitions from the jagged peaks of the Cosmos Range in the west to the Admiral Range in the east, illustrating a classic Alaskan fjord-and-mountain system. Between these ranges lies the Witches Cauldron, a distinctive glacial feature that highlights the dynamic geologic forces still shaping the region. The presence of Scenery Lake and several smaller alpine meltwater bodies reflects the ongoing hydrological patterns of a landscape largely untouched by permanent settlement or infrastructure.
