About this map

Windham Bay and the surrounding coastline of the Tongass National Forest appear here as they were documented in the late 1940s. The remote settlement of Windham PO serves as a focal point at the head of the bay, marking a rare outpost of human activity along this glacial shoreline. Further inland along the Chuck River, the Chuck Mining Camp and a nearby Mine indicate the era's ongoing extractive interests, connected only by a rugged Trail that follows the river's path.
