About this map

Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm converge in this mid-century coastal survey, framing the massive ice and rock of Mt Sumdum. The landscape is dominated by the flow of the Sumdum Glacier, its surface marked by numerous crevasses as it moves toward the saltwater. Evidence of former human presence is found at the shoreline, specifically the Indian Village (Aband) near the Tidal Flat, and a solitary Cabin on Harbor Island within Holkham Bay. These labels suggest a transition away from seasonal or permanent indigenous settlement toward more isolated maritime activity. Inland, the topography rises sharply to the freshwater basins of Upper Sweetheart Lake and Lower Sweetheart Lake, which feed into Sweetheart Creek as it descends toward the glacial fjords.
