Crater Lake National Park and Winema National Forest dominate this landscape, where the volcanic topography of the Cascade Range transitions into a network of forest roads and snowmobile trails. The eastern boundary of the park follows the high ground of Sand Ridge, while to the east, the terrain is defined by prominent volcanic features such as Dry Butte and Boundary Butte. The hydraulic infrastructure of the region is anchored by the Sand Creek Canal, which diverts water from Sand Creek through the rugged northern sections of the forest.
