The landscape is marked by historic river access points including Ritmans Ferry, Finley Ferry, and Cochrum Ferry, which once facilitated local commerce and travel across the state line. Small communities like Supply, Pitman, and Minorca are dispersed across the terrain, connected by a network of local routes such as McKnight Rd and Pitman Rd.

Genealogical interest is high in this area, with numerous small burial grounds such as Old Pitman Cem, Legate Cem, and Ainley Cem scattered throughout. The topography transitions from the winding course of the Current River in the east to the elevation of Grindstone Hill in the west, with drainage provided by Winningham Creek and Glaze Creek.
