Susanville serves as the focal point of this high-desert landscape, situated at the transition where the Sierra Nevada meets the Modoc Plateau. The city is bisected by the Susan River, which flows eastward toward the Honey Lake Valley. To the north, the terrain rises sharply toward Susanville Peak, a prominent landmark overlooking the town's residential and institutional districts. The presence of Lassen Community College and several civic sites, including the Susanville Cem and Lassen County Cem, reflects the town's established role as a regional center.
