Cameron Prairie National Wildlife Refuge dominates the southern reaches of this coastal landscape, protecting a complex network of wetlands and bayous. The terrain is defined by low-lying ridges such as Grand Lake Ridge and Pichot Ridge, which provide slight elevation amidst the surrounding marsh. A sophisticated water management and transport system is visible through the Intracoastal Waterway and a series of numbered channels, including Number-One Canal, Number Two Canal, and Number Three Canal.
