White Canyon and its many tributaries, including Fry Canyon and Cheesebox Canyon, dominate this 1987 provisional survey of San Juan County. The landscape is defined by massive elevated plateaus and isolated landforms such as Found Mesa, Fry Mesa, and the prominent Lone Butte. Near the southeastern corner, the map provides detail for the boundary of Natural Bridges National Monument, showing its relationship to the surrounding drainage systems.

Extractive history is evident through numerous prospects and a recorded mine shaft located near the intersection of the canyons. The namesake landmark, The Cheesebox, rises as a distinct summit above the complex network of gravel-bottomed washes.
