White River National Forest dominates this high-altitude landscape of Pitkin County, Colorado, surveyed in 1960 and updated through the late 1980s. The terrain is defined by a network of drainage systems including Woody Creek and Hunter Creek, which carve deep paths through the high country. Evidence of the region’s wilderness character is found in the extensive Pack Trail systems and the Woody Creek Pack Trail that link isolated features like Slab Park and Deer Park.

The presence of the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness in the southern portion of the sheet reflects the preservation efforts of the era. Elevations reach peaks such as Bald Knob and the Williams Mts, while the Roaring Fork River flows through the southern valley. To the west, Smuggler Mountain stands near the edge of the quadrangle, a landmark often associated with the silver mining heritage of the nearby Aspen region, though here it remains part of a largely undeveloped alpine environment.
