Targhee National Forest dominates this mountain landscape in Bonneville County, where high peaks and deep drainages define the eastern Idaho terrain. The settlement of Swan Valley and the community of Irwin anchor the western edge of the sheet along the Snake River corridor. Between these points and the high summits, a network of canyons including Bear Canyon, Dry Elk Canyon, and Limekiln Canyon carve through the uplifted ridges. Significant recreational landmarks are mapped in detail, notably the Palisades Lake Lodge and Palisades Creek Campground, which provide access to Lower Palisades Lake and Upper Palisades Lake. At the center of the quadrangle, Thompson Peak and Atkinson Peak reach heights that overlook Paradise Basin and the winding course of Rainey Creek. The map documents the relationship between the valley floor and the high backcountry, tracing routes like Rainey Creek Rd and Palisades Creek Rd into the heart of the forest.
