The Chetco River carves through this portion of the Kalmiopsis Wilderness area, defining a landscape marked by steep drainages and isolated backcountry sites like Chetco Bar and Taggarts Bar. In the northern reaches, the Illinois River makes a brief appearance near the Green Wall, while the central terrain is anchored by significant elevations including Tincup Peak, Hayward Peak, and Mount Billingslea. These peaks serve as the headwaters for numerous perennial streams such as Tincup Creek and Sluice Creek.
