The surrounding terrain is a complex network of bayous and brakes, including Hudson Brake and Honey Brake, which frame the agricultural and residential pockets of Serena, Mayna, and Eva.

Evidence of much older occupation appears at Indian Mounds near Tooleys and Flowery Mound near Armagh, while contemporary life is marked by rural schools like Larto Sch and Boggy Bayou Sch.
