The Dome Rock Mountains dominate the northwestern horizon of this landscape, where the high desert terrain transitions into the broad expanse of the La Posa Plain. This 2021 survey of the Arizona borderlands reveals a network of ancient desert corridors, including the namesake Trigo Pass and the southern Felipe Pass. These gaps in the ridgelines have historically dictated movement through the arid interior of La Paz County. Seasonal drainage patterns are clearly marked by the winding paths of Tyson Wash and Trigo Wash, which carve through the stony elevations near the South Trigo Peaks. The presence of Cibola Rd in the southwest provides a modern trace of the overland routes that have long connected this desert reach to the surrounding river valleys.
